Residency Program
Introduction

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Florida College of Medicine is pleased to respond to your inquiry. Our fully accredited four-year residency program emphasizes a balanced educational approach stressing clinical medicine, teaching, research, and clinical resource management. In the world of rapidly evolving health care reform, we are committed to maintaining our academic vision while responding to the market forces of managed care. Our academic vision focuses on preparing our residents for postgraduate careers as specialists in obstetrics and gynecology or as subspecialists in Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, Gynecologic Oncology, or Urogynecology. This preparation is global and predicated on the premise that our specialty is uniquely capable of providing a continuum of health care to women, whether it be the primary care management of hypertension or the advanced surgical management of genital prolapse. We welcome your interest in our specialty and our program

Mission Statement
Academic Excellence * Social Commitment * Compassionate Patient Care
The purpose of this four-year training program is to educate the resident in the entire breadth of the discipline of obstetrics and gynecology and to foster a lifelong commitment to the promotion of women's health care. The resident will acquire cognitive knowledge, technical skills, and interpersonal skills through didactic lectures, small group conferences, audiovisual media, individual instruction, independent reading, and direct patient care. Upon successful completion of the training program, the resident will be fully prepared for the independent practice of obstetrics and gynecology or for further training in a subspecialty discipline. The department is firmly committed to helping each resident recognize his/her full academic, clinical, and personal potential within an intellectually stimulating and emotionally supportive environment.
