After graduating cum laude in 1991 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and Chemistry from Houston Baptist University, Dr. Edwards attended medical school at the University of Texas, Houston Health Science Center.  He graduated from medical school in 1995 as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.  He then moved to Gainesville, Florida, where he completed residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Florida in 1999 and subspecialty fellowship training in Maternal-Fetal Medicine in 2002.  During his fellowship, Dr. Edwards earned a Master of Science degree in Clinical Investigation in 2001.  He is currently an Assistant Professor in the Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine.  Dr. Edwards is Board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and in Maternal-Fetal Medicine.  He is a member of, among other organizations, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine, and the Infectious Diseases Society for Obstetrics and Gynecology.

In addition to seeing private obstetric patients at Women's Health at Magnolia Parke, Dr. Edwards teaches medical students, residents, and fellows at the University of Florida Clinics and Shands Hospital at the University of Florida.  Both the Department and the College of Medicine have recognized him with awards for excellence in teaching. 

Dr. Edwards also actively is involved in medical research.  His research efforts are concentrated in the areas of clinical obstetrics, preterm delivery, and infectious diseases in obstetrics.  He has authored or co-authored over 40 scientific publications and is a reviewer for Obstetrics & Gynecology and the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
