Administrative Activities

Division members are actively involved in administrative activities in the department as well as in the medical school. Dr. Davis, besides serving as Division Director, is the Assistant Clinical Clerkship Director. He also serves on the College's Medical Student Selection Committee and the Department’s Quality Assurance Committee. Dr. McLean is the division representative to the Resident Selection Committee. Dr. Bennett serves as a member of the university-wide Faculty Senate. She likewise is on numerous committees, including the Women’s Health Advisory Group, the Department’s Resident Selection Committee and, along with Drs. Davis and Simms-Cendan, the College’s Medical Student Selection Committee. Dr. Simms-Cendan is Chair of the Alternative Medicine Task Force for Shands at AGH and UF. She serves as a Children's Medical Services (CMS) Physician and also is on the Surgical Case Review Committee. She is a frequent guest lecturer for local organizations on topics of adolescent gynecology, sexuality and teen pregnancy.

The Division of Gynecology is responsible for the organization of the Department Journal Club meetings. The Journal Club meets monthly at the home of a faculty member for an informal discussion of current articles in the literature. This conference is attended by faculty members and residents, as well as medical students considering a career in Obstetrics and Gynecology, and local obstetrician-gynecologists in private practice in the Gainesville area.

The Division is also responsible for publication of the OB/GYN Newsletter. Dr. McLean serves as the editor for this ongoing publication. He began the newsletter in 1989 as a means of establishing communication with former faculty, residents, and alumni of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. The newsletter format has been updated recently and can now be found as part of the OB-GYN website.
