Study of the Treatment of Abnormal Bleeding on Depo-Provera
The purpose of this NIH-sponsored study is to collect information on a possible method of decreasing abnormal vaginal bleeding in women who use Depo-Provera for contraception. The study is seeking healthy women between ages 18 and 40 who are using Depo-Provera for contraception and are experiencing significant spotting or bleeding. The study involves 4 visits to our clinical office at Women’s Health at Magnolia Parke for extensive gynecological testing and examination for abnormal bleeding at no cost. If eligible, the women will be required to keep bleeding diaries and take either the study medication (a low dose antibiotic called Doxycycline) or a "placebo” for 6 months. Eligible candidates will receive, in addition to the free screening tests, $100.00 compensation for each completed visit. For additional eligibility criteria call our office at Magnolia Parke (352) 265-6200 and ask for the Research Coordinator or her assistant.
